The CB "AuditoriOM" with Fleur-De-Lis Inlays

The English translation of "fleur-de-lis" (sometimes spelled "fleur-de-lys") is "flower of the lily". This symbol, depicting a stylized flower, has many meanings. Tradition holds that the symbol depicts a lily or lotus flower, but the fleur-de-lis more closely resembles an iris, and there has been some debate for centuries regarding the actual flower depicted in ancient heraldry.

Traditionally, the fleur-de-lis has been used to represent French royalty, and in that sense the three petals of the flower are said to signify perfection, light, and life. Legend has it that an angel presented Clovis, the king of the Franks, with a golden lily as a symbol of his purification upon his conversion to Christianity. Others claim that Clovis adopted the symbol when water lilies showed him how to safely cross a river and thus succeed in battle.

Joan of Arc carried a white banner that showed God blessing the French royal emblem, the fleur-de-lis, when she led French troops to victory over the English in support of the Dauphin, Charles VII, in his quest for the French throne.

The Roman Catholic Church historically has ascribed the lily as the special emblem of the Virgin Mary, and because of its three "petals," the fleur-de-lis has also been used to represent the Holy Trinity.

When Dixie Bozung decided to tackle the challenge of designing a new headstock inlay based on the Fleur-De-Lis, she eschewed the more traditional heraldic forms in favor of a more natural approach. The result is a stunning combination of leaves and flowers that flows along the length of the peghead, with the more traditional forms of Chris' tasteful fingerboard inlays echoing the peghead's large pearl iris blossom.

We think you'll agree that the overall effect is quite impressive, and that the Fleur-De-Lis will quickly become one of our most popular inlay options.
