CB "Model J" in Quilted MahoganyMahogany has gotten something of a "bad rap" over the years because some manufacturers have used it for their "cheaper" instruments. While run-of-the-mill Mahogany may be a bit less expensive than Rosewoods or more exotic woods, fine Honduras Mahogany is becoming ever-harder to obtain in the fine grades Chris requires. CB Guitars uses only the finest Mahogany available, and each set is hand-picked for tonal potential and beauty. Many players (including Doc Watson, Norman Blake, and Chris Bozung) prefer Mahogany over Indian Rosewood because of its great clarity of tone and cutting ability for lead guitar playing. Quilted Mahogany is a rare and beautiful variant of Honduras Mahogany. While woods such as Maple are known for their flamed or quilted figure, Honduras Mahogany can be very dramatically figured as well, although finely-quilted sets of Honduras Mahogany are relatively rare.
