CB "Model J" with "St. Michael and the Dragon" Inlay

Rick NesSmith is a good friend, and the proud owner of several CB guitars. When Rick sat down to design the specs for his latest custom CB guitar, he wanted the "guitar of a lifetime". For his body size, Rick chose the Model J for its awesome power and smooth, warm tone. When it came to wood selection, Rick chose Engelmann Spruce for the top, along with a beautiful set of old-growth Brazilian Rosewood for the back & sides, to maximize both the beauty and the tonal potential.

But that wasn't enough; Rick wanted something really special, something that would have a visual impact as well as represent his deep Christian faith. Rick drew his inspiration from the Holy Bible:

"And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him." (Rev. 12:7-9, King James Version)

Rick designed the beautiful inlay, which flows from the fretboard onto the peghead, with help from Boge Quinn and Larry Robinson of Robinson Custom Inlays. The inlay work was done by Larry. Chris sent Larry the slotted fretboard and peghead veneer early in the guitar's construction, and Larry completed the inlays while Chris worked on the rest of the guitar, sending them back to Chris when completed to be assembled into a truly special guitar.

The result of this collaboration is not only a wonderful player's instrument, but a stunningly beautiful conjunction of artistry, craftsmanship, the finest materials available, and deep spirituality. Truly a piece of "acoustic art" that will be handed down to future generations of the NesSmith family.
